Crocodile leather costs more than cowhide, and it should. The question is whether you get something in return.
Rarity
Crocodile hides are small, so a single hide yields only a few pieces. Cowhide is available in huge quantities.
Selection
Each hide has to be chosen for the quality of its scales, its colour and its flexibility. Many hides do not make the cut.
Documentation
Trade in crocodile leather is regulated under CITES, so each piece needs the right paperwork behind it. A piece without it is a red flag.
Craft
Exotic leather is harder to cut and finish than cowhide. Our pieces are made to order and finished by hand in our European workshop.
Uniqueness
Cowhide can be copied. A crocodile scale pattern cannot: nobody else has your exact piece.
Durability
With basic care it lasts for years and ages well.
An investment, not an expense
Think of a genuine exotic piece as something to keep rather than replace. It is rare, made in small batches, and well cared for it keeps its character and appeal for years. That is why many owners see it as an investment: a piece that can hold its value far better than a mass-produced one.
How to spot an imitation
A very low price, a perfectly repeating pattern and no paperwork usually mean embossed cowhide.
So, is it worth it?
If you value something rare, lasting and yours alone, yes. If you only need a place to put cards, a classic leather one will do.
